Manzanillo, Mexico Holidays & Events


January 1, 2019: Año Nuevo. New Year’s Day. All government offices and banks will be closed.

January 6, 2019: Dia de la Magi. Official holiday in Mexico, all government offices and banks will be closed.


February 5, 2019: Dia de la Constitucion - This day celebrates the promulgation of the country’s 1917 Constitution. It's always on the first Monday in February.

Dates vary: Carnival - Manzanillo has been celebrating this event since 1898. The city comes alive with events during this time of the year. During this time experience parties, parades with floats and even a carnival queen. This date varies as it is the day before the start of Lent.


March 18, 2019: Natalicio de Benito Juarez - This is a public holiday in Mexico and is also the official start to Spring in Mexico. It is the birth date of Benito Juarez, Mexico’s first and most revered President.


April 14 – 20, 2019: Samana Santa Holy Week of Easter – Maundy Thursday and Good Friday are public holidays. There will be street fiestas in the evenings in the central part of Manzanillo. On Easter Sunday visitors can observe elaborate candle-lit altars at the City Museum on Independence 684.

April – May: Manzanillo Carnival – this event is known for its parades, dances, and competitions with masks. Groups of musicians and dancers fill the streets dressed in their colorful costumes.


Late April - May: Fiesta de Mayo Celebration - Join in art exhibitions, parades, carnival, native dances and concerts around Manzanillo.

May 1: Labor Day - Public offices are closed but most shops will be open for business.


September 16, 2019: Dia de la Independencia - Mexican Independence Day. Celebrations start on the evening of September 15th and go through the next day.


End of October through beginning of November: Feria de Todos Los Santos - This is a celebration of the saints of Colima.


November 2, 2109: NoDia de los Fieles Difuntos - Mexico’s “Day of the Dead” celebration.

November 18, 219: Dia de la Revolution - This date celebrates the start of Mexico’s 1910 revolution. This is always observed on the third Monday in November.

Dates TBD: Manzanillo Cumbia, Salsa y Merengue International Festival – This annual event is held every year in the port of Manzanillo, with performances by artists and musicians.


December 12, 2019: Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe - This holiday commemorates the Virgin of Guadalupe, Mexico’s patron saint. Expect to find street parties, and dancing during this festival holiday.

December 16 – 24: Las Posadas – Each night the faithful re-enact Joseph and Mary’s search for posada (shelter) on their journey. For the less devout, it is an excuse for a fun party!
